Hi all -
I've
got some cool news that I've been waiting to announce. It
turns out that I'm going to Comic-Con this year. Now
I'm not talking about the small comic conventions (hence
the "-con" ;)) that are in cities all over. I'm
talking about THE Comic-Con, with a capitol "C",
in San Diego. I've always wanted to go. Yeah, yeah...the
fact that I'm going is not the cool news because over 100,000
people go there every year. I'm not that important.
The
cool news is that my short, "Pen
vs. Pencil" got into the
Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival (CCI:IFF)
screening there and I will be presenting it. Even better, another
one of my projects, "Zombie
Prom" got in as well. Now THAT's
cool...2 of my projects in the same festival...a festival that's
being shown at a convention where over 100,000 people attend.
That's more than 3 times as many as Siggraph,
and they didn't accept my film.
What's more (if that isn't enough), is the festival is a juried
event. That means in addition to the screenings, there are awards
given to the best in each category. In
a wonderful coincidence, one of the judges is Chris Gore,
producer of "My Big Fat Independent
Movie" (which, btw, is available at Best
Buy as an exclusive 2-disc DVD), and he knows me well ;). Now, I'm not saying PvsP
is going to win...that's one of 16 in the animation category
I can only imagine how many that submitted. It's so great that
it's just there...that being said, wouldn't it be cool? Zombie
Prom, however, is one of 3 in the comics-oriented catigory...that
stands a good chance.
If you're in the San Diego area and want to learn more about
the Comic-Con, CCI:IFF and see the film schedule,
convention is from July 20-23. The screening of PvsP and Zombie
Prom is on Thurs, the 20th at 4:15 and 7:30, respectively.
Enjoy...
- Luciano
